IVF Success After 13 years of marriage

Fertility Journey Interrupted by the Pandemic

Jyotsana and Sandipan have their home in Rabindranagar. This july they will complete 10 years of their married life. Their story of how they reached the pregnancy stage is an emotional and medical rollercoaster. They first started their fertility treatment before Covid-19. However, man proposes, God disposes. Due to the pandemic, the treatment was suspended. This made both of them miserable as they had high hopes of getting pregnant and having a child in 8-9 months.

New Challenge: Uterine Fibroid

In 2025, with renewed vigour, they started again. This time, however, another medical condition awaited them. Jyotsna was diagnosed with a very large uterine fibroid. Without losing hope and with optimism, they went to Anandaloke Hospital for the treatment, as it was necessary before they could move forward with the fertility treatment.

Finding The Right IVF Centre in Siliguri

After the treatment, the couple started looking for an IVF center in Siliguri. They came across the NewLife Fertility Centre in Siliguri in a newspaper. The couple decided to consult Dr. Prasenjit Kr. Roy regarding the suitable treatment. For the couple, the doctor’s compassionate approach made a lasting impression. “His compassionate behaviour and treatment are commendable,” the couple recalls. After their previous experience and the emotional and medical turbulence that they faced, having a doctor who listened to them patiently and understood their concerns boosted their confidence.

Pregnancy After The First IVF Cycle

Jyotsna began her fertility treatment journey at Newlife. To her immense surprise, she became pregnant after the first IVF cycle itself. Sandipan was euphoric. Together, the couple was in seventh heaven; now their dream of becoming a parent was within reach. This moment was more emotional than medical for the couple. After 10 years of the utterly challenging journey, their eyes and ears were witnessing this joyous moment.

Compassionate Care

They say, “The staff is extremely caring, and despite the massive crowd, they answer all the questions politely”. What could a couple who are confused and forlorn ask for? They experienced that because of the positive attitude of the nurses and doctors, the patients returned home with the faith that everything would soon be fine, and for Jyotsna and Sandipan, it did.

IVF Success Rate

The couple has been witnessing a display board in the hospital for the last 6 months. The board exhibits the IVF success rate in NewLife, which is 80-85%. Despite the complexity of the procedure, such a high success rate is astonishing for the couple. The couple feels that such amazing results are due to a combination of people’s faith and NewLife's reputation.

Transparent Costs

Another factor that the couple found worth mentioning was that as soon as they arrived at NewLife Fertility Center, they were given an estimated cost. What stood out was that there were no hidden charges. The couple paid only what they signed for. The couple remarks that “ NewLife stands out due to its transparent policy and zero hidden charges”.

Their Journey

Today Jyotsna is 4 months pregnant. The couple’s fertility journey is a reminder that sometimes this road may be full of unexpected bumps like a pandemic, uterine fibroids, or a 10-year wait. However, after overcoming every challenge, the couple finally realized their dream of becoming parents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is IVF possible if a woman has uterine fibroids?
Answer: Yes, IVF is possible in women with uterine fibroids. However, the success depends on the size, number, and location of the growth. A fertility specialist may recommend treating the fibroids before proceeding with IVF.
Answer: IVF is usually manageable. However, some parts of the process may cause temporary discomfort, such as egg retrieval. Also, bloating, mild cramping, pelvic heaviness, and some abdominal discomfort may be experienced. Even the process of embryo transfer is somewhat painless; however, mild cramping and spotting may be witnessed afterwards.
Answer: After an embryo transfer, pregnancy is confirmed through a blood test called beta-hCG. This test measures the level of human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone produced after implantation. After the beta-hCG test is positive, the doctor recommends a blood test to monitor how the hormone level is changing. After a few weeks, an ultrasound scan is performed to confirm the location of the pregnancy.
Answer: The main steps involved in an IVF cycle are ovarian stimulation to develop multiple mature follicles rather than a single egg, a trigger injection to help the eggs complete their maturation, egg retrieval to collect eggs from the ovaries through a process called oocyte retrieval, fertilisation, which includes combining eggs and sperm, embryo development in which the fertilised eggs are developed into embryos, and finally embryo transfer where the selected embryos are transferred to the uterus.
Answer: No, IVF does not guarantee a successful pregnancy. The success depends on many factors, like the age of the woman providing the eggs, because as age increases, the quality and quantity of eggs reduce; the egg and sperm quality, embryo quality, uterine health, underlying fertility conditions, and the body’s response to treatment, etc.
